Communal Violence in West Bengal
A 17 year old Hindu student studying in Class 11th in Baduria, North 24 Parganas, West Bengal posts a highly objectionable depiction of Prophet Muhammad on Facebook.
The post goes viral Baduria is close to India-Bangladesh border with a sizeable Muslim population who are economically and educationally backward.
A communal violence flares up in North 24 Paraganas district. A frenzied mob in the surrounding districts with the epic center being Baduria erect barricades, block roads, stop trains vandalize shops, torch vehicle, attack police stations and attack other community member.
The state government ropes in BSF jawans to assist local administration in controlling the situation. The boy who is identified as Sauvik Sarkar is arrested by the police and taken into custody.
Chief minister Mamata warns perpetrators from who engage in violence and avows to be impartial on the crackdown “I won’t spare anybody inciting communal violence”
Hindu groups organized a stir in Kolkata against the tension in Baduria. Four rioters — Rajarshi Lahiri, Sanjay Goswami, Surojit Biswas and Suraj Podda members of VHP, have been taken into custody.
Schools and colleges were shut on Tuesday following the riots. According to police, the situation in and around Baduria was on Wednesday “tense but under control”.

Chief minister Mamata Banerjee accused BJP for formenting the communal unrest and in unprecedented move criticized the governor of west Bengal Keshari Nath Tripathi had threatened her and said he was acting like a “BJP block president”.
The governor seems to have ‘threatened’ Mamata Bannerjee to impose President Rule.
“He called me and veiled threat at me. The governor has no constitutional rights to threaten a CM. I have told him that you cannot talk to me like that,” the CM looked upset when she said -Reported Hindustan times.
