A girl was reportedly burnt alive by her neighbour for resisting a molestation bid in Shahiganeshpur area here, police said on Tuesday.
The incident took place on Monday when the 18-year-old was alone at her house and the neighbour’s son Hariom came to charge his phone and tried to molest her, they said.
When the girl started shouting, he doused kerosene on her and set her ablaze.
The family members rushed the girl to hospital, where she died during treatment.
SP, Rural, Khwati Garg said that an FIR has been registered in the matter and police are on the lookout to nab the accused, who is absconding.

This incident took place at time when Yogi Adityanath completed 100 days in his office. The BJP won the Uttar Pradesh election on March 19 2017 by a thumping 325 seats on promise of improving law and order in the state.
Earlier on June 18, a review meeting of all departments, including Social Welfare, Disabled Welfare, Minority Welfare, Backward Class Welfare, Women Welfare, Food Safety and Drugs Departments, chaired by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath was held in Lucknow.
“The law and order situation has worsened in Uttar Pradesh and nobody feels safe. Prime Minister Modi and Yogi Ji had raised law and order issue in the Uttar Pradesh election campaign and today the state is witnessing the worst law and order situation,” Congress leader Shakeel Ahmed told ANI.
Ironically, On the same day, Yogi Adityanath also released a booklet — “100 din vishwas ke” (100 Days of Trust).
