Prime Minister Narendra Modi is said to be a very compassionate person, he came up with a memorable catch phrase “Sabka Sath Sabka Vikas”(collective efforts inclusive growth). People where exhilarated, nerves ran high, I felt excited like every Indian, that here we now have a genuine leader who has true connect with the vibe of the people.
Riding on the popularity of his slogan and the previous governments failure Modi won with thumping majority and took charge of being India’s Prime Minister in 2014. Ever since he came to power I read a lot hate and crime has become the staple in our country. In specific the steady rise in crime against minorities and dalits, I find it to my despair that most of these cases have been motivated in the name of a Cow. Three years has passed since his memorable speech I stand today hurt by the fact that the ‘Sabka Sath’ that was coined in during the elections was a sham, I realize ‘Sabka Sath’ was more about bovines than about my fellow citizens.
On personal aspects our Prime Minister is a kind and passionate person not just to fellow humans but also towards the animals, in particular he has immense affection to the animal cow which he considers to be divine. Once a reporter asked him about 2002 Gujarat riots he said “I am deeply hurt even when a dog is ran over by a vehicle accidentally”, such was his response.
Unfortunately, I am missing my old Narendra Modi who had strong emotional connect and was a genuine peoples person. Our PM has kept quiet on heinous crimes of mob lynchings that happened to my fellow brethren Akhlak, Pehlu, Junaid and others. I hope their deaths have not fallen on deaf ears or forgotten Akhlak, Pehlu and Junaid and so many who were the victims of mob lynching.
Prime Minister Modi in a speech recollected his childhood memories “a 4-5 year old son of mason in a narrow lanes of Vadhnagar was trampled by a agitated cow and lost his life. Despite the tragedy the victim’s family and people in lane didn’t show any hostility to the animal, but the cow returned and stood outside the mason’s house and fasted itself to death for the unfortunate loss of life”. 1
This shows our Prime Minister is concerned for the cows while he remains indifferent and silent on mob lynchings, hate crimes and caste related violence.
