Yoga and Its History
Ministry of External affairs Defines Yoga as:
The practice of Yoga is believed to have started with the very dawn of civilization. The science of yoga has its origin thousands of years ago, long before the first religions or belief systems were born. In the yogic lore, Shiva is seen as the first yogi or Adiyogi, and the first Guru or Adi Guru. (Source)
But, Now in the contemporary times, everybody has conviction about yoga practices towards the preservation, maintenance and promotion of health.
Yoga is also commonly understood as a therapy or exercise system for health and fitness.
While physical and mental health are natural consequences of yoga, the goal of yoga is more far-reaching. “Yoga is about harmonizing oneself with the universe. It is the technology of aligning individual geometry with the cosmic, to achieve the highest level of perception and harmony.”
How Yoga Lost its Glory?
But during the British rule and even after the British left India, We were more interested in Foreign therapies, such as Allopathy. We have also forgotten the glory of Yoga slowly. This was until Narendra Modi, became the Prime Minister of India in 2014.
International Yoga Day – How Modi Single handedly Restored the Glory of Yoga:
After Narendra Modi became Prime Minister, His focus was towards restoring the lost pride of India. He made UN to declare June 21, as the International Yoga Day. He also promoted Yoga himself on a personal as well as political level. Prime Minister Modi alloted crores towards Yoga in the parliament.
And during June 21, 2015, He himself became the first PM to participate in the International Yoga Day. Now When we are observing the third International Yoga day, Prime Minister Modi urged that Yoga is for all religions and all countries. Prime Minister Modi also sat as a common man and did Yoga with a huge crowd of 51,000 people.
