Bareilly (Uttar Pradesh): Three members of Hindu Yuva Vahini (HYV), an organisation floated by UP Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath, were arrested here on charges of gangrape and assaulting a police officer.
The incident took place on Monday night following a dispute between one Deepak and Avinash over playing of loud music in Ganeshnagar locality, Superintendent of Police (City), Rohit Singh Sajwan said on Tuesday.
The petty quarrel escalated when Avinash called in his friends, fellow workers of HYV, who then broke into Deepak’s house and assaulted the women.
Later when Deepak returned home, with his brother Gaurav, beat up Avinash is retaliation and handed him over to the local police.
When the news of this clash and Avinash’s transfer to the police spread, HYV regional President Jitendra Sharma and city unit President Pankaj and some number of other HYV activists reached the police station to protest the arrest.
BJP chief Umesh Katharia also reached the police station and in presence of police. The HVY workers allegedly misbehaved with the BJP leader and allegedly assaulted sub-insepctor Mayank Arora.
Two FIRs have been lodged in this connection, Mr. Sajwan said.
One FIR was lodged by SI Arora against Avinash, Jitendra and Pankaj for allegedly thrashing him and the other by a woman against the three and another person named Anil Saxena, for allegedly gangraping her.
According to the police a probe on the matter is already underway.
Mr. Avinash, Mr. Jitendra and Mr. Pankaj have been detained, police said, adding that a probe is on in the matter.
