On June 2 the Maharashtra unit of the Bhim Army led by Ashok Kamble held a meeting at Pune to chalk out an policy outline, review organization issue and discuss their future plans.
The Mumbai wing leader Ranakar Daware, took part at the meeting in Pune said the organization would focus on important issues in the state such as Protection of women, combating the caste discrimination faced by Dalits in their occupation, Harassment of dalits, police highhandedness, supporting education of dalit youths, finding solution to problems plaging students from backward classes.
Mr Ranakar Daware we would begin a campaign to release Chandrashekar.
Bhim Army’s state unit was formed on June 18 2017 in Mumbai. Led by advocate Ranakar Daware, dalit artist Sambhaji Bhagat and his team aboard.
Earlier, a meeting of Bhim Army activists in Pune was held on June 11. Social media campaign is being used as means to strengthen the movement and reach out to the grass roots level. Bhim Army activist Prashant Shere from Hinjewadi said they are committed to fighting the casteist and corrupt forces harassing the Dalits and minorities.
The trouble that brew for the BJP in Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh on 5 May 2017 witnessed a formation of apolitical Dalit force called Bhim Army that was founded under the patronage of Chandrasekhar a lawyer by occupation who abadoned Mayawati and her Party BSP. The organization protested against the decadence of upper castes in Saharnapur, Uttar Pradesh. Incidentally the excess against Dalits grew in Uttar Pradesh after Yogi Adityanath took charge of UP.
To strengthen their new-found voice Bhim Army rallied to seek the support of the Muslim, Yadavs, Valmikis and other OBCs against the common adversary in the upper caste led BJP.
Consequently, BJP ruled states and a media smear campaign had them be branded ‘Naxals’ and ‘violent thugs’. The leader Chandrasekhar was arrested by UP STF in Dalhousie and the process to weaken the moment kicked in. But on the ground the moment strengthened and sprouted in other states such as Maharashtra.
